Molesworths successfully appeal against refusal of licence
Date online: 01/02/2011
In November last year, Molesworths Solicitors, acting on behalf of their client Majid Khan, successfully appealed to Preston Magistrates Court against the refusal of his application for a premises licence.
Speaking after the successful appeal hearing, Molesworths specialist licensing & regulatory Partner Paul Dixon commented that “The Police raised genuine concerns about the location of the premises in an area of the city centre which is subject to a special saturation policy. We are pleased to have been able to work with the Police and agree a structure for the operational hours of the premises so as not to clash with peak business hours of the pubs, bars and nightclubs in the vicinity. My client is grateful to both the Police and the City Council’s legal department for their support and assistance in reaching an amicable resolution to his appeal.”
Mr Khan, who’s premises are now licensed for the sale of alcohol between 8.00 am and 8.00 pm seven days a week said: “I am absolutely delighted with the outcome. I would like to thank the Police for their support and guidance, and I also want to express my thanks to the many hundreds of my customers who signed a petition in support of my application for a licence. Although there are lots of pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs in the city centre, until now there has been a notable shortage of off-licences.”
